Josytal Database Applications SharePoint : Overview

What is Josytal Database Applications SharePoint ?

Fast and reliable application server that interfaces a single database to convey processed data to and from many users' (clients) workstations (computers) in a local area network (LAN)

Takes care of the “business logic” in a “multi-tier” architecture - retrieves, processes and presents data to the clients, and also centrally processes any input data whether queries or updates, including any validation, verification and security checks that need to be performed.

Developed specially to cater for multi-user versions' specific needs of Josytal applications that use databases, for example, A-Z Contacts Manager NT, Business Kit NT etc.

Benefits of using Josytal Database Applications SharePoint

Data integrity
Because business logic is centralized, updates and upgrades to the application for all users can be guaranteed. There is no risk of old versions of the application accessing or manipulating data in an older, incompatible manner.

Hassle-free centralized configuration
Changes to the application configuration, such as connecting to the database, user access rights and privileges, move of database server, or system settings, take place centrally. Even if you have 1000 users connecting to the database, you only need to configure Josytal Database Applications SharePoint once. All users will connect to the common database via the SharePoint. An otherwise complex configuration procedures have been streamlined to just some clicks of the button: Josytal Database Applications SharePoint will auto-detect and extract from your system all necessary configuration parameters.

Security
A central point through which you can manage access to data and portions of the application itself counts as a security benefit, devolving responsibility for authentication away from the potentially insecure client layer without exposing the database layer.

Performance
By limiting the network traffic to performance-tier traffic, the client-server model greatly improves the performance of our software in heavy usage environments

Simple solution to complex problems
Josytal Database Applications SharePoint does not have significant system overhead requirements, given the overpowered nature of many of today's newest servers. Josytal Database Applications SharePoint is none of those "killer" applications that consume huge system resources, and will not conflict with your other applications nor crash your system.

Plan ahead with minimum cost
As your business grows, you can add more and more client computers/workstations to share a single database (customers, products, invoices, address book, correspondence etc.) in a local network environment, saving you additional cost and time of database duplications. Again, you don't need to buy expensive third party server applications to achieve this objective. Josytal Database Application SharePoint will serve as a single server and will handle as many as 1000 workstations/computers concurrently accessing the database through the local network.

Flexible alternatives for small businesses
Even though the“multi-tier” architecture referred to above usually splits across three separate computers, it’s still possible for all three tiers of interface, application, and database to be installed on a single computer. You can use Josytal Database Applications SharePoint  with multi-user versions of our software (e.g. A-Z Contacts Manager NT) this way as well - if a single computer is your option or your business has tight budget.

Definitions
1.  A Local Area Network (LAN) is a group of computers and associated devices that share a common communications line or wireless link. Typically, connected devices share the resources of a single processor or server within a small geographic area (for example, within an office building). Usually, the server has applications and data storage that are shared in common by multiple computer users. A local area network may serve as few as two or three users (for example, in a home network) or as many as thousands of users (for example, in an FDDI network).

2. "Multi-tier" refers to the three tiers involved in the system: client – application server – database. Many networks still run on a two tier approach, in which the client computers are connected to a central server, but each client has their own copy of a particular application installed on them. This means all processing happens on the client computers, and the connection to the server is used only for data retrieval. The three tier approach, sometimes called n-tier or more commonly multi-tier, takes the processing away from the clients, leaving them with only data presentation. In this model, the client may be referred to as a “thin client”.
Even though the three tiers are usually split across three separate computers, it’s still possible for all three tiers of interface, application, and database to sit on a single computer. You can use Josytal Database Applications SharePoint  with multi-user versions of our software (e.g. A-Z Contacts Manager NT) this way, too - if a single computer is your option.

3. Business logic is a collection of the functions that the Josytal Database Applications SharePoint  performs on the data
